Eco-Ride Assistant

An Android app for truck drivers that looks at the road ahead and tells you, in plain voice prompts, when to lift off the throttle and when to expect to brake - so the truck's own momentum does more of the work on hills.

How it works

Sees the road ahead

The app reads the elevation profile up to two miles ahead from maps stored on your phone and works out where the road will speed the truck up or slow it down.

Tells you when to act

Short voice prompts, such as “Prepare to stop acceleration” and “Stop acceleration”, come early enough to ease off the throttle and let the truck roll.

Stays quiet otherwise

Gentle grades inside your speed corridor are ignored. The app speaks only when a descent actually matters.

Features

Maps currently cover the United States.

Important

Eco-Ride Assistant is an advisory tool, not a safety system. It does not control the vehicle. The driver is always responsible for operating the vehicle safely and in compliance with traffic laws and posted speed limits. Map data, elevation data and speed limits may be incomplete or out of date.

Data sources

Road data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL). Elevation: USGS 3D Elevation Program. Place boundaries: U.S. Census Bureau TIGER/Line. Speed-limit inventory: FHWA Highway Performance Monitoring System. Voice prompts are generated with the Piper text-to-speech engine and the LJ Speech voice (public domain).
